Patna (Bihar), February 21: Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar Renu Devi on Monday welcomed the sentencing of former state chief minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president Lalu Prasad Yadav in fodder scam and said "You reap as you sow." "You reap as you sow. This is what the outcome is. The same will happen to us if we do this. It is the tradition of society. It is the karma (deeds)," the Deputy Chief Minister said while talking to the media. Earlier in the day, the senior RJD leader Lalu Yadav was sentenced to five years in jail and fined Rs 60 lakh in the fifth case linked to the fodder scam. The RJD chief was convicted in the case last week. He was found guilty of the fodder scam that occurred during his tenure as Bihar's chief minister in the 1990s. On February 15, 24 out of 99 accused were acquitted while 3-year jail terms were pronounced for 46 accused. The decision on the remaining accused was taken on Monday. 'You reap as you sow' The Rs 950-crore scam is related to the fraudulent withdrawal of public funds from the government treasuries in various districts of undivided Bihar. Of the original 170 accused, 55 died, while 7 became government witnesses, and 2 accepted the charges against them. The six have been absconding. 'You reap as you sow' The scam came into light after a raid conducted by the Deputy Commissioner of Chaibasa Amit Khare at the Animal Husbandry Department in January 1996.
