Yoga Day: PM Modi to lead UN event; people from over 180 countries to participate

New Delhi, June 17: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the Yoga Day event at the United Nations headquarters in New York which will be attended by people belonging to more than 180 countries, sources said.

According to sources, this year's Yoga Day event will be special since Prime Minister Modi will be leading the large-scale celebration. The event will feature notable personalities from all areas of life. People from more than 180 nations will join him. Diplomats, leaders, artists, cultural icons, academicians, and entrepreneurs will be among those in attendance.


On June 20, Prime Minister Modi will go on his first state visit to the United States. The Prime Minister will begin his journey in New York, where he will lead the celebrations of the International Day of Yoga at the United Nations Headquarters on June 21.

Following Yoga Day in New York, the prime minister will fly to Washington, D.C., where he will be greeted with a ceremonial welcome at the White House on June 22 and meet with President Biden to continue their high-level interaction.

According to an announcement from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden will hold a State Dinner in honour of the Prime Minister the same evening.

PM Modi will address a joint session of the US Congress on June 22 at the invitation of US Congressional Leaders, including House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and Senate Speaker Charles Schumer.

The prime minister will be jointly hosted at a luncheon on June 23 by US Vice President Kamala Harris and State Secretary Antony Bilnken. Aside from official engagements, the Prime Minister will have scheduled conversations with notable CEOs, professionals, and other stakeholders. He will also meet Indian Diaspora members.
