Russia Ukraine conflict: US shuts down embassy in Kyiv over potential attack threat
PTC News Desk: Amid mounting concerns for a wider conflict with Russia during ongoing war with Ukraine, the Unite States has announced temporary closure of its embassy in Kyiv over potential air attack expected on November 20.
"Out of an abundance of caution, the embassy will be closed, and embassy employees are being instructed to shelter in place," the US Department of State’s Consular Affairs said in a statement.
The US citizens in Ukraine are also advised to be prepare for potential air raid alerts and take necessary precautions. The warning comes a day after Ukraine launched US-supplied ATACMS missiles into Russian territory, following new authorisation from outgoing President Joe Biden's administration.
Earlier this week Russian President Putin also signed a new decree while making certain improvisations in the nuclear doctrine. The new policy asserted that any attack by a non-nuclear stated backed by nuclear armed country will be considered as a joint assault on Russia.
President Putin issued new policy after Biden administration's authorisation to Ukraine for using US-supplied long range missiles which were used for the very first time to target Russia.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskyy has been pressing the Biden administration for a long time to ease the restrictions on usage of US-made missiles in its war with Russia. He has said that it is a key part of his "Victory Plan" for Ukraine.
