PTC News Desk: The United States has issued an advisory for its citizens travelling to India. The travel advisory warns against visiting Jammu and Kashmir owing to the possibility of terrorism.

The United States government has particularly advised its people to avoid travelling within 10 kilometres of the India-Pakistan border. This precaution is in response to potential dangers and increased tensions in the region.

Additionally, travellers are advised to remain vigilant and take caution in crowded areas, and tourist attractions, especially during major public events. The advisory is intended to ensure the safety and security of US nationals while travelling in India.

The US has also advised its citizens not to travel to Manipur or parts of the country's central and eastern regions where Naxalites operate.

The State Department has upgraded its travel advisory for India to include information on the northeastern states.

Overall, India has been put at Level 2. However, numerous regions of the country have been designated as Level 4, including Jammu and Kashmir, the India-Pakistan border, Manipur, and parts of Central and East India.

"Do not travel to: The union territory of Jammu and Kashmir (except the eastern Ladakh region and its capital, Leh) due to terrorism and civil unrest; within 10 km of the India-Pakistan border due to the potential for armed conflict; portions of Central and East India due to terrorism and Manipur due to violence and crime."

The travel advisory also reads."Indian authorities report that r@pe is one of the fastest-growing crimes in India. Violent crime, such as sexual assault, has happened at tourist sites and other locations. Terrorists may attack with little or no warning. They target tourist locations, transportation hubs, markets/shopping malls, and government facilities.”
