US intercept, Houthis' 2 anti-ship missiles thwarted in Red Sea

PTC News Desk: In a swift response to a distress call from the Singapore-flagged Maersk Hangzhou, the US Central Command announced the successful interception of two anti-ship ballistic missiles launched by Houthi rebels in the Southern Red Sea. The incident occurred at 8:30 p.m. Sanaa time, prompting the US to neutralize the threat emanating from Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen.

The targeted vessel, owned by Denmark and flagged by Singapore, reported being struck by a missile, leading to the urgent call for assistance. The US military promptly intervened, preventing potential harm to the merchant vessel and its crew by intercepting the incoming missiles. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported as a result of the interception, according to the US Central Command.

This recent event highlights the escalating pattern of Houthi attacks on international shipping, marking the 23rd incident since November 19. In response to these threats in the Red Sea, the US, along with several other nations, has established a maritime task force aimed at addressing and countering such attacks. The collective effort underscores the commitment to ensuring the safety and security of maritime operations in the region.
