US: Indian origin man, daughter shot dead at their store in Virginia over alcohol
PTC News Desk: In a tragic turn of events, an Indian origin man and his daughter were shot dead outside their departmental store in America's Virginia. According to the family members of the deceased back in Gujarat, they were shot by a man who was frustrated after waiting overnight for the shop to open so he could buy alcohol.
The deceased have been identified as Pradeep Patel, 54 who died on the spot while his 24-year old daughter Urmi succumbed to her injuries two days later. Police have arrested a man in connection with the case, however the motive behind murder remains unclear.
While narrating the ordeal, Pradeep's family back in Gujarat said that the accused George Frazier Devon was lurking around the store all night and as soon as the they opened the store he confronted them in sheer anger and opened multiple rounds of fire.
The tragic incident has sent shockwaves amongst the Indian community. Chandu Patel, a leader of the Kadva Patidar community and Pradeep's uncle said that the family leanrt about the incident through media reports. "They had just opened their store at around 5 am on March 20 when a man entered and began shooting. Both Pradeep and Urmi were hit. The accused identified as George Frazier Devon Wharton has been arrested," he said.
The accused has been taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder and felony.
