US imposes 104 % tariffs on China effective today, confirms White House
PTC News Desk: The tariff war doesn't seem to be settling down as United States has officially announced imposing a staggering 104 % tariffs on all the goods imported from China, the Whie House confirmed.
The move marks sharpest escalation in US-China trade tensions since the previous tariff war. Trump's team said that the decision is aimed at 'leveling the playing field' as the President over the past few weeks have accused nations across the world of “looting the US" with tariffs on American exports.
Earlier on Monday Trump had threatened China of imposing even morethan earlier announced on Chinese imports if Beijing fals to revole its newly announced 34 % retaliatory duties.
The tariff hike consisting of a 20 per cent tariff levied in March, followed by another 34 per cent last week and an additional 50 per cent confirmed this week - is among the most aggressive US trade actions recently.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt doubled down and confirmed there would be no delay in implementation. "He's [Donald Trump] not considering an extension or a delay. I spoke to him before this briefing... he expects that these tariffs are going to go into effect," Leavitt told reporters. She added, "[Trump] is putting the world on notice and is putting the American people first."
