US Election 2024: Donald Trump takes the lead over Kamala Harris in swing states

PTC Web Desk: As the United States gears up for the 2024 presidential election on November 5, a new poll from AtlasIntel reveals former President Donald Trump ahead of Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, particularly in crucial swing states.

According to the survey, 49% of likely voters expressed their support for Donald Trump, giving Republicans a 1.8% lead over Harris and the Democrats. This survey, conducted on November 1 and 2, gathered responses from nearly 2,500 likely voters, with women making up the majority of participants.

As the race intensifies, the spotlight is on battleground states such as Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, which are pivotal in determining the election outcome. The poll shows Donald Trump ahead in all seven states, with the widest gap in Arizona, where he leads Harris 51.9% to 45.1%. In Nevada, Trump garners 51.4% support compared to Harris's 45.9%, while in North Carolina, he leads with 50.4% to Harris’s 46.8%.

Historically, presidential elections in the US revolve around three categories of states: Red States, Blue States, and Swing States. Red States consistently favour Republicans, while Blue States lean Democratic. Swing States, however, remain unpredictable, often decided by narrow vote margins. In 2020, for example, Joe Biden secured a win in Arizona by just 10,000 votes.

Another perspective comes from a Reuters/Ipsos poll released on October 29, which indicated a closer race, with Harris holding a slim 1-point lead over Trump, 44% to 43%. However, Harris’s advantage has been gradually shrinking since September, despite leading in all Reuters/Ipsos polls since she announced her candidacy in July. The race remains highly contested, with both candidates focusing on these key states as the election nears.
