PTC News Desk: An organisation of Taylor Swift fans, known as "Swifties for Kamala," has successfully raised over $40,000 for Kamala Harris's presidential campaign. This fundraising effort was sparked by a provocative post from Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, who declared, "I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!" on Truth Social.

Swifties for Kamala seized the opportunity presented by Trump's post to drive donations for Harris, the Democratic candidate. Carly Long, a communications team member for the organization, explained, "As soon as we saw the post, we knew this was an opportunity. Our team quickly mobilised with lyric-themed responses and strategies to encourage donations and volunteer efforts."

Long added, "We use memes to capture attention and then guide that enthusiasm into actionable support. Swifties understand that haters gonna hate, but we also know that we can do more than just shake, shake, shake."

While Swifties for Kamala is not officially affiliated with Taylor Swift, it has garnered substantial support, raising over $207,000 in less than two months. Their initial fundraising launch attracted 27,000 viewers and featured notable endorsements from celebrities such as Carole King and Senators Elizabeth Warren, Kirsten Gillibrand, and Ed Markey.

Taylor Swift has publicly endorsed Kamala Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz, praising Harris as a "steady-handed, gifted leader." Following the Harris-Trump debate, Swift voiced her support on social media, stating, "I'm voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them."

Elon Musk also commented on Swift's post, with a tongue-in-cheek remark that referenced Swift's previous sign-off as "Childless Cat Lady," saying, "I will give you a child and guard your cats with my life."

In addition to their fundraising activities, Swifties for Kamala plans to extend their outreach efforts, focusing on swing states and aligning their campaigns with events tied to Swift's Eras Tour, which resumes in Miami on October 18. Irene Kim, a co-founder of the group, emphasised, "We're leveraging our existing fan culture to make voting and political engagement more accessible."
