Sunita Williams rubbishes health rumors amid weight loss claims
PTC News Desk: Indian-origin NASA astronaut Sunita Williams broke silence on concerns regarding her health. A recently shared picture of astronaut has sparked speculations over her health. However putting a rest to all the speculations, she said that her noticeably different appearance is due to the fluid shift while striking down weight loss claims emphasising that she is healthier than ever.
“Folks in space, you know, their heads look a little bit bigger because the fluid evens out along the body,” she explained.
“My thighs are a little bit bigger, my butt is a little bit bigger,” she said. “We do a lot of squats.”
Despite her evident weight loss which can be seen in the pictures with her sunken cheeks and thinner physique, she asserted that there was nothing to worry about her health. Williams' remarks comes days after NASA issued statement over astronaut's health during prolonged space station stay.
In response to the concerns, NASA spokesperson Jimi Russell said, "All NASA astronauts aboard the ISS undergo routine medical evaluations and are monitored by dedicated flight surgeons.”
Williams' latest affirmations however do not align well with another NASA employ who is involved in the mission and stated that Sunita Williams has lost a lot of weight. Sunita Williams and her fellow astronaut Barry Wilmore have been stranded in space since five months and are not expected to return before February 2025.
