Six Indians, 1 Nepalese dead and 19 injured as bus plunges into river
Nepal bus accident: In a devastating incident, a bus accident in Nepal's Madhesh province has resulted in the loss of six Indian pilgrims and one Nepalese citizen, as well as injuring 19 others. The accident occurred in the Bara district when a bus transporting pilgrims from Rajasthan overturned and plummeted around 50 meters down a mountain road near Churiamai Temple at Simara Sub-Metropolitan City. The tragedy took place early on Thursday.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Pradeep Bahadur Chhetri provided details, stating, "The bus carrying six Indian pilgrims overturned and fell down the road at a riverbank. A total of 26 passengers were on board, and in the accident, one Nepalese was also killed. The family of the deceased has been informed."
The accident resulted in the detention of three individuals, including the bus driver Jilami Khan, according to Superintendent of Police Hobindra Bogati, the chief of the Bara district police office. Bogati also mentioned that the driver and co-workers sustained injuries during the accident and were apprehended following medical treatment.
The injured victims are currently receiving treatment at different hospitals in Hetauda in the adjacent Makwanpur district.
Road accidents are unfortunately frequent in Nepal due to the challenging road infrastructure, predominantly characterised by mountainous terrain. Just the day before, another tragic incident occurred in Nepal's Bagmati province, where a passenger bus plunged into a swollen river, resulting in eight fatalities and at least 15 injuries. The bus was en route from Kathmandu to Pokhara when the accident transpired, veering off the highway into the Trishuli River in Dhading district.
