Sikh girl found dead inside walk-in oven in Canada walmart
PTC Web Desk: A 19-year-old Sikh girl was found dead inside a walk-in oven in the bakery department of a Walmart store at Halifax, Canada. The Halifax Regional Police (HRP) received a call regarding a sudden death at the Walmart located at 6990 Mumford Road around 9. 30 pm on Saturday.
The authorities are yet to identify the woman, who was an employee at the store. The Maritime Sikh Society confirmed her membership in their community, expressing deep sorrow over the loss. Anmolpreet Singh, a representative of the society, said, “It's very sad for us and for her family, as she came here seeking a better future and tragically lost her life.” Reports indicate that she had recently relocated to Canada from India.
The Walmart has been closed since Saturday evening while an investigation is underway. HRP Constable Martin Cromwell acknowledged online speculation surrounding the circumstances of the woman's death. “The investigation is complex,” he remarked. “We understand the public's interest and encourage patience as we consider the feelings of family members and coworkers involved.” He also noted that Halifax police are collaborating with relevant agencies to assist in the investigation.
The HRP urged the public to refrain from sharing speculative information on social media. Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the province's labour department confirmed that a stop-work order has been issued for the bakery and one specific piece of equipment within the Walmart.
Walk-in ovens, which are commonly used in large bakeries, enable the curing, drying, or baking of items in batches using wheeled racks or carts.
