Pro-Khalistani mob attacks devotees at Hindu temple in Canada; Justin Trudeau reacts

PTC News Desk: Hindu-Canadian devotees were attacked at the Hindu Sabha temple in Brampton by alleged Khalistani extremists, sparking outrage among the Hindu community in the country and criticism from Canadian politicians.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also spoke out against the attack. "The acts of violence at the Hindu Sabha Mandir in Brampton today are unacceptable. Every Canadian has the right to practice their faith freely and safely," he posted on X.

Several videos of the incident went viral on social media. The videos were also shared by Canadian MPs. One video shows a group of men holding sticks and attacking devotees outside the temple.

The mob was seen brandishing flags of pro-Khalistani groups. The Hindu Canadian Foundation, a non-profit community organisation, stated on social media that children and women were also attacked in the incident.

Opposition leader Pierre Poilievre condemned the violence as completely unacceptable. "All Canadians should be free to practice their faith in peace... I will unite our people and end the chaos," Poilievre posted on X.

Anita Anand, Canada's Indian-origin Transport Minister, condemned the attacks as "unacceptable" and stated that "all religions, Hindus included, have the right to attend places of worship and practice their religion without such assaults".

Rao Yendamuri of the Hindu Forum Canada reported that a similar "riot-like" event occurred at the Laksminarayan Mandir in Surrey. Jagmeet Singh, Trudeau's aide and Sikh MP, remarked, "Violence anywhere is wrong" and appealed for peace.
