Saudi man loses over 500 kilos with help from former King

PTC News Desk: Thanks to Saudi Arabia's former King Abdullah, Khalid bin Mohsen Shaari, who was formerly thought to be the heaviest man alive, has lost 542 kg. At a potentially fatal weight of 610 kg in 2013, Khalid spent more than three years in bed. His health worsened to the point where he needed friends and relatives to help him with even the most basic necessities. King Abdullah intervened with a detailed plan to rescue Khalid's life, moved by his predicament.

The King made arrangements for Khalid to get free, first-rate medical care. Using a forklift and a specially made bed, Khalid was moved from his house in Jazan to King Fahad Medical City in Riyadh. A group of thirty doctors came together to create an intense course of therapy and nutrition plan.

In order to help Khalid regain his mobility, his treatment includes gastric bypass surgery, a specially designed diet and exercise regimen, and frequent physiotherapy sessions. Leading experts in the Middle East helped Khalid achieve amazing outcomes.

Khalid bin Mohsen Shaari, who was formerly the heaviest person living and the second heaviest person in history, saw a dramatic metamorphosis in which he lost almost half of his body weight in a matter of six months.

Khalid reached a healthy 63.5 kg by 2023, having dropped an incredible 542 kg. His body changed so drastically that he needed several procedures to remove superfluous skin; this is a regular occurrence in people who lose a lot of weight since their skin may not be able to adjust to their new body shape.

His miraculous turnaround has earned him the nickname "The Smiling Man," which he cherishes to this day. The medical personnel came up with the moniker.
