Post-Galwan, Indian and Chinese troops clash twice along LAC: Report
PTC News Desk: Recent revelations suggest at least two undisclosed skirmishes between Indian and Chinese troops along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) following the 2020 Galwan incident. The details emerged from citations for gallantry awards presented to Indian Army personnel during an investiture ceremony conducted by the Army's Western Command. The citations briefly outlined how Indian troops responded assertively to aggressive actions by China's People's Liberation Army (PLA) along the LAC.
The Army's Western Command initially shared a video of the January 13 ceremony on its YouTube channel but deactivated it on Monday. The incidents referred to in the citations occurred between September 2021 and November 2022, shedding light on ongoing tensions along the LAC.
The Indian Army, on high combat readiness since the Galwan Valley clashes in June 2020, has faced multiple skirmishes with Chinese troops in the last three-and-a-half years, following the eastern Ladakh border dispute's outbreak in May 2020.
One incident highlighted in the citations occurred on December 9, 2022, when PLA troops attempted to transgress the LAC in the Yangtse area of the Tawang Sector, altering the status quo. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh informed Parliament about the incident, emphasizing that Indian troops contested the Chinese attempt with firm resolve.
During the investiture ceremony, gallantry awards were reportedly conferred on several Indian Army personnel involved in the firm response to the attempted transgression. Singh described the ensuing face-off as a physical scuffle that prevented the PLA from encroaching on Indian territory, resulting in injuries on both sides.
