PM Modi pushes UK PM to extradite economic offenders Vijay Mallya, Nirav Modi
PTC News Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held talks with his UK counterpart Keir Starmer held bilateral talks on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Brazil discussing trade relations, technology partnerships. Indian Prime Minister also took up the issue to extradite Indian fugitive Vijay Mallya and Nirav Modi.
This was among the five separate bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the G20 Leaders Summit in Brazil.
PM Modi during the meeting emphasised on the importance of addressing the issue of economic offenders' extradition. Both Mallya and Nirav Modi have pending cases against them in India.
The MEA in a statement on Tuesday said, “Prime Minister (Modi) noted the importance of addressing the issue of economic offenders from India in the UK.”
Modi ansd Starmer also agreed on the need to make progress on issues related to migration and mobility of people between the two countries. Both the leaders also noted the importance of resuming Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations while also asserted to address the remaining issues mutually leading to a balanced, mutually beneficial and forward looking FTA.
“Both leaders underlined the importance of resuming the Free Trade Agreement negotiations at an early date and expressed confidence in the ability of the negotiating teams to address the remaining issues to mutual satisfaction, leading to a balanced, mutually beneficial and forward-looking Free Trade Agreement,” the Ministry of External Affairs said.
