PTC Web Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is headed to Italy to attend a Group of Seven (G7) summit, his first international trip since taking office for the third time.

The Summit is scheduled to take place in the Apulia region from June 13 to 14, and India has been invited as an Outreach Country. The Summit will be attended by seven member countries: the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, Italy, Japan, and France, as well as the European Union.

Vani Rao, the Indian ambassador to Italy, stated that PM Modi will play a significant role in one of the global platforms, engaging with other world leaders attending the G7 Summit on matters crucial to India and the Global South.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni had invited PM Modi to join the G7 summit. India will attend its 11th G7 Summit, and Prime Minister Modi will attend for the fifth time in a row. On the sidelines of the Summit, PM Modi is due to undertake bilateral meetings and discussions with the leaders of the G7 and Outreach countries, as well as international organisations.

According to Foreign Secretary Kwatra, PM Modi is also slated to hold a bilateral meeting with his Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni, during which the two leaders would examine all aspects of bilateral relations.

Addressing a special briefing, Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra stated that the visit is significant because it will be the Prime Minister's first abroad visit since taking office for the third straight term.

"It will also afford him an opportunity to engage with other world leaders present at the G7 Summit on issues of importance to India, as also to the Global South. This will be India's 11th participation in G7 Summit and Prime Minister Modi's fifth consecutive participation at the G7 Summit," he added.
