PM France visit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded his three-day visit to France, marked by strategic discussions with French President Emmanuel Macron and the inauguration of a new Indian consulate in Marseille, enhancing India-France diplomatic ties.
During his visit, PM Modi paid homage to freedom fighter VD Savarkar at Marseille, where Savarkar once attempted an escape from a British ship. He also honoured Indian soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the World Wars by laying a wreath at the Mazargues War Cemetery, accompanied by President Macron.
The visit included comprehensive bilateral talks covering key areas of the India-France strategic partnership, including defense, civil nuclear energy, technology, and innovation. The Ministry of External Affairs stated that both leaders expressed satisfaction with ongoing collaborations in health, culture, tourism, education, and people-to-people ties.
A significant highlight was the joint inauguration of the new Indian consulate in Marseille, aimed at strengthening support for the Indian diaspora in southern France. "The opening of an Indian consulate here will be helpful to us as currently we have to go to Paris for passport renewal. It will also help the Indian community grow in the south of France," said a community member.
Before departing for a two-day visit to the United States, PM Modi invited the French Army to explore the Made in India Pinaka multi-barrel launcher, further emphasizing defense collaboration. Notably, President Macron announced plans to visit India next year, reinforcing the deepening partnership between the two nations.
