'PM Modi a true friend': Israeli survivor hails India's support amid Hamas attack
PTC Web Desk: An Israeli survivor of the devastating October 7, 2023, Hamas assault on Israel has expressed heartfelt gratitude towards India's unwavering support during the crisis, hailing Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a "true friend" of Israel.
Moran, reflecting on the six-month anniversary of the cross-border massacre on April 7, commended India's steadfast solidarity throughout the ordeal. The brutal onslaught by Hamas claimed the lives of 1,200 persons in southern Israel, igniting an ongoing conflict with Hamas in Gaza. The Israeli military reported the loss of 600 soldiers in combat since then.
In Gaza, the toll on civilian lives has been catastrophic, with the Palestinian Health Ministry reporting at least 33,207 fatalities in the six-month span. The majority of Gaza's 2.3 million residents are now homeless, facing dire food shortages and famine.
In an interview with ANI news agency, Israeli survivor Moran expressed her profound appreciation for India's enduring support, which she acknowledged had begun long before the October 7 attack and continued thereafter. She credited Prime Minister Modi for India's unwavering friendship, emphasising that "India is a true friend of Israel."

Moran extended her gratitude not only to the Indian government but also to the people of India, whom she described as "our good friends." She highlighted the pivotal role played by Indian citizens in providing support and assistance during the crisis, stating, "Our voice cannot be everywhere. We know that the Indian people are taking care of everything we need."
Prime Minister Modi's swift response to the Hamas attack underscored India's solidarity with Israel. In a post on X, Modi expressed shock and solidarity, stating, "Deeply shocked by the news of terrorist attacks in Israel. Our thoughts and prayers are with the innocent victims and their families. We stand in solidarity with Israel at this difficult hour."
Days after the attack, Modi assured Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of India's unwavering support, declaring, "The people of India stand firmly with Israel in this difficult hour." He reiterated India's firm condemnation of terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.
Modi also welcomed the release of Israeli hostages in November 2023, following negotiation efforts between Israel and Hamas.
