PM Modi leaves for Russia; know what's on agenda
PTC News Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Moscow for the 22nd India-Russia Annual Summit on Monday at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin. This 2-day visit is Modi's first to Russia since Moscow invaded Ukraine in February 2022.
His most recent visit to Russia was in 2019 when he attended an economic conclave in Vladivostok.
PM Narendra Modi is expected in Russia by Monday afternoon (IST). The yearly summit between Modi and Putin serves as the highest level of institutional dialogue in the two nations' strategic partnership.
According to an official announcement, Modi and Putin will discuss the full range of bilateral relations and exchange views on current regional and global problems of mutual concern during their meeting.
Modi's schedule in Moscow includes a private meeting with Putin, delegation-level talks, restricted talks, a lunch hosted by Putin for the Prime Minister and his delegation, and a visit to the VDNKH Complex's Rosatom Pavilion. He will also address a gathering of the Indian diaspora.
In an interview with Russia's state-run VGTRK television channel, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that Modi's program in Moscow will be "extensive" and that the two leaders will be able to hold "informal talks".
"Obviously, the agenda will be extensive, if not overly busy. The visit will be professional, but we intend to have informal conversations with the heads. We expect a very important and full-fledged visit, which is critical for Russian-Indian relations," Peskov added.
