Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulates PM Modi for 3rd term
PTC Web Desk: Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on taking the oath of office for a third term.
"Felicitations to @narendramodi on taking oath as the Prime Minister of India," Sharif said on X.
This congratulatory message came after a more cautious statement from Pakistan's Foreign Office spokesperson, Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, who said on Saturday, when asked about congratulating PM Modi, "We do not have any comments on their electoral process." She stated that as the new Indian government had not yet been sworn in, it was "premature" to exchange congratulatory greetings.
The PM Modi-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) won a significant victory in the recent Lok Sabha Elections, winning 293 of 543 seats.
"Pakistan has always desired cooperative relations with all of its neighbours, including India. We have consistently called for constructive communication and engagement to resolve all outstanding issues, including the core dispute in Jammu and Kashmir," Baloch stated.
