Oman Sultan's visit to India: Key talks to take place on strategic partnership, trade investment and cooperation

Oman Sultan's visit to India: Oman Sultan Haitham bin Tarik has landed at the national capital for three-day state visit to India. 

He was welcomed by V Muraleedharan, Minister of State (MoS) for External Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs of India. He is visiting the country with a high-level delegation of senior ministers and officials, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in an official release.


 

Oman Sultan's visit to India: Schedule 

Day 1:  On Day 1 of his Oman's Sultan will also be called on by the External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar today. 

Day 2: The Sultan of Oman has been invited by PM Modi and President Murmu at the Rashtrapati Bhavan for a ceremonial welcome on December 16.

Day 3: The Sultan of Oman will also visit the National Gallery of Modern Art here and hold a meeting with PM Modi at Hyderabad House on day two of his visit. During his visit, PM Modi will also host a luncheon in his honour.

 

Oman Sultan's visit to India: Key Talks and discussions 

The ongoing visit of Sultan Haitham bin Tarik of Oman to India is poised to elevate the existing strategic partnership between the two nations, emphasising the promotion of trade, investment, and cooperation across diverse sectors. 

The discussions between Sultan Haitham and the Indian leadership in New Delhi aim to foster integration and cooperation, paving the way for enhanced collaboration.

As of the end of the third quarter of 2023, the commercial exchange between Oman and India amounted to RO 1.447 billion.

Omani exports to India, valued at RO 699.218 million, encompassed products such as oil, minerals, LNG, polyethene, propylate, aluminium, and urea.

Discussions on sectors include industry, construction, trade, transportation, communications, oil and gas, mining, quarrying, education, agriculture, fisheries, tourism, and health. The Sultan's visit signifies a commitment to further strengthening these economic ties and fostering mutual growth.

These relations, the ambassador noted, flourished during the current era, strengthened by the wise leaderships of both countries and a common outlook towards a growing political position and a developed and prosperous economy. 

India and Oman Relations 

India and Oman share a long-standing friendship rooted in historical, cultural, and economic ties. Moreover, people-to-people contact between India and Oman can be traced back 5,000 years.

The diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in 1955, and the relationship was upgraded to a strategic partnership in 2008.

Oman is India's closest defence partner in the Gulf region as well, and defence cooperation has emerged as a key pillar of the strategic partnership between India and Oman. 

Oman is the only country in West Asia with which all three services of the Indian Armed Forces conduct regular bilateral exercises and service-level staff talks.
