The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) issued a warning that foreign nationals who fail to register or voluntarily leave the country will be deported immediately, without being given time to settle their personal matters. Those who inform authorities of their intent to self-deport but do not follow through will face fines ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 (approximately ₹86,096 to ₹4.30 lakh).
In addition, individuals who do not comply with self-deportation orders may face imprisonment and be permanently barred from reentering the United States through the legal immigration process.
The DHS highlighted the advantages of self-deportation, stating that individuals can depart on their own terms by selecting their flights and retain the money they earned in the U.S., provided they have no criminal record.
