Iran mine explosion: A mine explosion in eastern Iran claimed the lives of at least 50 people and injured another 20. According to media reports, the incident has raised concerns that many more workers are trapped beneath the rubble.

According to a report, a methane gas leak caused a massive explosion at a coal mine in Tabas. The explosion took place on Saturday night, endangering 69 miners in one of the tunnels.

According to the IRNA report, the 69 miners were working in two mine blocks, B and C, when the abrupt gas leak happened on Saturday at 9:00 p.m. (17:30 GMT).

The governor of South Khorasan Province, Ali Akbar Rahimi, told state television that rescue operations in Block C had begun. He added that the methane density in the block is high, and the process will take three to four hours.

Meanwhile, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian extended his condolences to the families of those killed in the Tabas coal mine incident. He stated that authorities had been dispatched to the scene to investigate the incident.
