Canada's Indian origin MP Chandra Arya announces candidacy for Prime Minister
PTC News Desk: Canada's Indian origin MP Chandra Arya has announced its candidacy for the Liberal leadership asserting to build a 'small and efficient government.' The Ottawa MP, who was born in Karnataka, made the announcement on X Thursday morning.
In a statement, Arya said he wants to make “Canada a sovereign republic”, which would require replacing the monarchy as the head of state.
Arya's anouncement follows Justin Trudeau's decision to step down as Prime Minister and leader of Liberal Party amid internal rift within the party. In his post Arya pointed out bunch of challenges that the country is currently facing including which include affordability issues for students, a struggling middle class and a crippling economy.
he further said that Canada deserves leadership that isn’t afraid to make the big decisions. Decisions that rebuild our economy, restore hope, create equal opportunities for all Canadians, and secure prosperity for generations.

"We are facing significant structural problems that haven’t been seen for generations and solving them will require tough choices. I have always worked hard for what is best for Canadians, and for the sake of our children and grandchildren, we must make bold decisions that are absolutely necessary. If elected as the next Leader of the Liberal Party I offer my knowledge and expertise to do so," his post read.
Chandra Arya's announcement also incorporates spate of promisis and policy proposes if he is voted to power. These includes, increasing retirement age by two yers in 2040, introducing a citizenship-based tax system and recognising Palestine as a state.
To garner people's support, he also launched a website with in-depth policy proposals.
Arya is broadly known for his anti-Khalistan stance and has extended support to Hindu Community
on several occasions.
