India, China, Brazil could mediate Russia-Ukraine talks: Putin

PTC News Desk: Russian President Vladimir Putin stated on Thursday that India, China, and Brazil could act as mediators in potential peace talks over Ukraine, Reuters reported.

Putin stated that a preliminary agreement struck between Russian and Ukrainian negotiators at the meetings in Istanbul, which was never implemented, could act as the framework for future negotiations. During the first few weeks of the 2022 conflict, the two nations held discussions in Istanbul.

Vladimir Putin's statement came months after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Moscow and his recent visit to Ukraine, which was the first by an Indian Prime Minister in decades. Putin was ready for discussions with Ukraine, having previously rejected the concept of talks while Kyiv's offensive into the Kursk region was underway.

Notably, the war between Russia and Ukraine has been ongoing since February 2022. India has appealed for dialogue and diplomacy to help resolve the conflict.

PM Modi had previously visited Ukraine on August 23, becoming the first Indian Prime Minister to do so. During his bilateral discussion with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, PM Modi underlined India's position of resolving the conflict through dialogue and diplomacy.

"India was never neutral; we always stood for peace," Prime Minister Modi told Zelenskyy. He stated that India was ready to take an active role on the path to peace and growth.
