Bangladesh Unrest: Sheikh Hasina was riding high in the political high at the beginning of January, having been elected to a record-breaking fourth term in a row and her fifth term altogether as prime minister of Bangladesh.

However, her 15-year reign, came to an abrupt end when demonstrators invaded her official residence, compelling her to step down and leave the nation. She is reportedly planning to travel to London in the near future to apply for asylum in the UK.

The 76-year-old Hasina has seen it all, from being hailed by fans as a "Iron Lady" and bringing stability to Bangladesh, which was formerly dominated by the military, to being criticized as a "autocratic" leader.

As the daughter of Bangladesh's founder, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Hasina has been in power since 2009, making her the longest-serving female head of state in history as well as the longest-serving prime minister in Bangladesh. The country is strategically placed in South Asia.
