Imran Khan says democracy in Pakistan is at an all-time low

Islamabad, May 14: According to ARY News, Imran Khan, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan and chief of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, has stated that democracy in Pakistan is currently at an "all-time low."

Speaking to Sky News on Sunday, Khan criticised the coalition government and claimed they were "petrified of elections" and afraid of being "wiped out" by his party at the polls. He also alleged that the government would only allow elections if he was either in jail or killed. Khan has previously faced two assassination attempts, and his home has been raided while he was away.

When asked about violence by protesters following his arrest from the Islamabad High Court (IHC) premises on May 9, Khan condemned "all violence." He also urged the Supreme Court of Pakistan to investigate the violence that occurred after his arrest in the Al-Qadir Trust case.

On Friday, while addressing party workers and supporters, Khan urged them to gather in their neighbourhoods with a placard inscribed with "Save Constitution, save the country" from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm on Sunday.

Khan also claimed that the police had prevented him from leaving the IHC premises despite being granted bail in multiple cases. He alleged that the police wanted to arrest him under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) outside the courtroom.

Khan emphasised that his supporters had always maintained peacefulness during their 27-year struggle, and he could never forget May 25 when the state unleashed violence on PTI supporters and activists.
