Historical Gurdwara Rori Sahib in Pakistan collapses amid heavy rains

Pakistan, July 18: The historical Gurdwara Rori Sahib in Pakistan's Jahman village, near the border with India on the Bedia Road, has collapsed due to recent severe rains, according to Pakistan-based Dawn.

The Gurdwara, which was most likely built during the reign of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, was related to Guru Nanak since he visited it three times. According to the Dawn report, the concerned authorities' negligence and illegal taking over the land left behind by the Sikhs after partition in 1947 were most likely the reasons for its continued fall, and the recent severe rains proved the last nail in its coffin.

The Gurdwara was previously surrounded by 500 Kanal of devoted land in Jahman, a Sikh-majority community. The Gurdwara had a pond in front of it, which is still there and is the sole piece of land that is not captured by land-grabbers.

The Gurdwara was built of red Nanak Shahi bricks and has a two-storey structure with a big golden dome on top. According to the Dawn report, just the back wall and a small bit of a side wall have survived, while the dome, middle area, and entire front have collapsed.

"The gurdwara collapsed in the first big rain about 20 days back," Muhammad Sadiq, who was herding his buffaloes on the dirt road near the ruined structure, said, according to the report.
