Harvard University files lawsuit against Trump administration over $2.2 billion funding freeze
PTC News Desk: Harvard University has filed a lawsuit against Trump administration seeking an immediate halt to the federal government’s freeze on more than $2.2 billion in grant funding.
"Over the course of the past week, the federal government has taken several actions following Harvard’s refusal to comply with its illegal demands," Harvard President Alan Garber said in a statement.
"Moments ago, we filed a lawsuit to halt the funding freeze because it is unlawful and beyond the government's authority," Garber said.
The legal action heightens an already growing conflict between one of the country’s top universities and the White House, sparked by President Trump’s push for major reforms at the Ivy League institution. Harvard’s lawsuit targets multiple U.S. government agencies, including the Departments of Education, Health, Justice, and Energy, as well as the General Services Administration.
“The Government has not — and cannot — identify any rational connection between antisemitism concerns and the medical, scientific, technological, and other research it has frozen that aims to save American lives, foster American success, preserve American security, and maintain America’s position as a global leader in innovation,” the university wrote in its lawsuit.
