G7 Summit: PM Modi engages in bilateral talks with global leaders during Italy visit
PTC News Desk: On the fringes of the G7 Summit in Italy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met separately and bilaterally with international leaders. PM Modi had meetings with Presidents Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine, Emmanuel Macron of France, and Rishi Sunak of the UK.
Zelenskyy informed Modi on many elements of the Russia-Ukraine conflict while Macron and Modi discussed ways to further expand the strategic relationship, notably in defense, nuclear, and space sectors. During their brief conversation, he also discussed improving bilateral ties with Sunak.
PM Modi landed in Apulia, Italy, earlier today in order to participate in the G7 Summit outreach session. On Friday, he is anticipated to meet with a number of leaders off-site. The Prime Minister is travelling abroad for the first time since taking office for a record-breaking third term.
PM Modi tweeted before to his departure to Italy, saying, "I'm looking forward to having fruitful conversations with world leaders." In order to create international collaboration and address global issues, we must work together for a better future.
The prime minister went on to say he was "glad" that he had been to the European country for the G7 Summit on his first overseas trip in his third consecutive term in office.
PM MODI AT G7 SUMMIT: LATEST DEVELOPMENTS
1. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, PM Modi and President Macron spoke about ways to further develop their relationship in the areas of defense, nuclear, space, education, combating climate change, digital public infrastructure, key technologies, connectivity, and culture.
According to a statement from the MEA, the two leaders decided to step up their strategic defense collaboration and put more of an emphasis on "Made in India."

2. The leaders discussed the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, advancing defense industry industrial collaboration, expanding trade and commerce, and other topics during PM Modi's meeting with Rishi Sunak, according to the External Affairs Ministry.

3. Zelenskyy and PM Modi "exchanged views on the situation in Ukraine and reviewed the bilateral relationship." MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that the PM "conveyed that India continues to encourage peaceful resolution of the conflict through dialogue and diplomacy."
"India is keen to further cement bilateral relations with Ukraine," the prime minister declared after describing the meeting as "very productive."

4. PM Modi is scheduled to speak at a G7 Summit outreach event. Giorgia Meloni, the prime minister of Italy, will greet Modi on Friday when he takes office as the head of the Italian Council of Ministers.
"To attend the G7 Summit, the prime minister of India has landed at the airport in Brindisi, Italy. He's got a busy day planned for tomorrow (Friday). We have scheduled multiple one-on-one encounters with global leaders. He will also speak at the G7 Summit's outreach session, according to Jaiswal.

5. The Prime Minister is set to participate in a summit session titled "Artificial Intelligence, Energy, Africa-Mediterranean," hosted by Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni and attended by Pope Francis. This marks PM Modi’s fifth consecutive participation in the G7 summit, with India having attended ten previous summits. Italy, as the current Chair of the G7, is hosting the gathering of seven major advanced economies—Canada, France, Germany, Japan, the UK, and the US, along with the European Union.
6. Italy extended an invitation to India as an outreach country to attend the summit. During the second day of the three-day summit, world leaders discussed issues of migration, followed by the Indo-Pacific and economic security. The Russia-Ukraine conflict dominated Thursday's agenda, with India reiterating its stance on "dialogue and diplomacy" as the preferred approach.
7. In her opening address on Thursday, Meloni highlighted that southern Italy was chosen as the venue to send a strong message to the Global South. On Friday, discussions centered on the significance of increased focus on the Indo-Pacific region.
8. Apart from the G7 participants—US President Joe Biden, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, French President Emmanuel Macron, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and European Council President Charles Michel—the Prime Minister will be joined by leaders of 10 other outreach nations invited to the summit.
9. These outreach nations include Algeria, Argentina, Brazil, Jordan, Kenya, Mauritania (representing the African Union), Tunisia, Turkey, and the UAE, joining India at the summit hosted by Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni.
Meanwhile, at the location of the G7 Summit in Italy on Friday, Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The two leaders gave each other a quick hello and made the namaste sign.
During the Summit's Outreach Session, he also had a meeting with Pope Francis.
