PTC Web Desk: Bernard Arnault, the French tycoon renowned for leading the luxury giant LVMH, has surpassed Elon Musk as the world's wealthiest person, according to Forbes' real-time billionaires list. As of Friday, Arnault's net worth surged to an impressive $207.8 billion, experiencing a significant increase of $23.6 billion, outshining Musk's $204.5 billion.

This shift in rankings was propelled by contrasting stock performances of their respective companies. Tesla, Musk's electric car enterprise, witnessed a 13% drop in its stock on Thursday, resulting in an $18 billion reduction in his net worth. Conversely, LVMH shares soared over 13% on Friday, fueled by optimism stemming from robust sales reports. LVMH's market capitalisation reached $388.8 billion on Friday, in contrast to Tesla's $586.14 billion market cap, as reported by Forbes.

Bernard Arnault, a 74-year-old visionary serving as the CEO of LVMH, has meticulously cultivated a luxury empire over nearly four decades. His strategic acquisition and nurturing of iconic brands such as Louis Vuitton, TAG Heuer, and Dom Pérignon have played a pivotal role in his success. Notably, Arnault has involved his five adult children in the business, creating a family-run enterprise reminiscent of HBO's popular show "Succession."

LVMH achieved a milestone in April, becoming the first European company to surpass $500 billion in market valuation. This accomplishment underscores the enduring allure of luxury goods, even in challenging economic times. Arnault briefly held the top spot in December 2022, when the tech industry faced challenges in contrast to the resilience displayed by luxury brands amid inflation.

One of Arnault's notable business moves includes LVMH's acquisition of Tiffany & Co. for nearly $16 billion in 2021, considered the largest luxury brand acquisition to date. Furthermore, his venture capital firm, Aglaé Ventures, backed by Arnault’s holding company Agache, invests in prominent businesses such as Netflix and ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok.

Beyond his business endeavors, Bernard Arnault is a fervent art collector, boasting a personal collection that includes works by renowned artists like Picasso, Matisse, and Mondrian. His multifaceted success is a testament to his strategic acumen and vision in both the business and art realms.
