Fly Dubai aircraft with 150 onboard catches fire upon take off

Kathmandu (Nepal), April 24: A Fly Dubai plane caught fire in one of its engines shortly after taking off from Tribhuvan International Airport on Monday. According to airport sources, over 150 people including 50 Nepali passengers are onboard.

At the airport, fire tenders were then arranged. According to Sudan Kirati, Nepal's Minister of Tourism, the plane has now safely flown to Dubai. As per ministers, the passengers are safe and the plane is flying on one engine.


"Fly Dubai flight number 576, (Boeing 737-800) Kathmandu to Dubai flight is normal now and proceeding to her destination Dubai as per the flight plan. Kathmandu airport operation is normal from 16:14 UTC (09:59 pm local time)," Nepal's Civil Aviation Authority tweeted following the incident.

A Saudia Airlines cargo flight made an emergency landing at Kolkata Airport on Saturday when its windshield cracked mid-flight, according to airport officials.

At 12:02 p.m., the plane safely arrived at Kolkata Airport.
