Musk's statement came in response to a Twitter user named Datahazard, who suggested that limiting suffrage to parents might be necessary for the long-term viability of democracy. Showing agreement with this viewpoint, Musk replied with a simple "Yup" in a series of tweets. This stance is not entirely surprising, as the world's wealthiest individual previously expressed his belief that individuals without children have limited investment in the future.
Last year, Musk, a father of nine children, expressed concerns about declining birth rates, asserting that it posed the most significant threat to civilization. During the All-In Summit in 2022, Musk addressed the notion that having fewer children would benefit the environment, dismissing it as "total nonsense." He contended that even if the human population doubled, the environment would endure.
In an effort to emphasize his point, Musk highlighted Japan as an example of the consequences of a dwindling birth rate. He noted that Japan's population had decreased by 600,000 individuals in 2021, suggesting that the country could face extinction if the trend continued. Musk argued for maintaining or moderately increasing the global population, stressing that a declining civilization leading to a whimpering end was undesirable.
Furthermore, Musk firmly asserted that having children was not detrimental to the environment but rather essential for the preservation of civilization. He dismissed the concerns of prospective parents who feared bringing a child into a troubled world, remarking that historical contexts were often far worse than the present.

Although they separated in September of the previous year, they continue to co-parent their children. In addition, Musk welcomed twins in November 2021 with Shivon Zilis, the project director at his Neuralink company.
