Trump unveils $5 million 'Gold Card' visa to replace EB-5 programme: 'It’s the Trump Card'

PTC Web Desk: Aboard Air Force One on Thursday, US President Donald Trump introduced a new $5 million visa scheme branded as the “Gold Card,” aimed at attracting wealthy migrants. The card prominently features Trump’s image and is being marketed as a luxury path to US residency.

Describing the initiative during a press briefing, Donald Trump said, “For $5 million, this could be yours,” presenting the card as a premium symbol of opportunity and prestige. Referring to it as the “Trump Card,” he claimed to be the first buyer and noted the programme would be available publicly within the next two weeks.

The Gold Card is set to replace the current EB-5 Immigrant Investor Visa Programme, which grants Green Cards to foreign investors who invest between $800,000 and $1.8 million in qualifying US projects while creating a minimum of ten American jobs. Trump criticised the EB-5 process as outdated and ineffective.

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick recently reported that over 1,000 Gold Cards had already been sold. He further added that approximately 37 million individuals worldwide have the financial capacity to purchase one, according to the New York Post.

Data from Invest in the USA (IIUSA), a trade association supporting the EB-5 programme, reveals that 135,518 EB-5 visas have been issued over the last 25 years.
