CrowdStrike CEO on Global IT outage: 'Apologies, resolution will take time'

George Kurtz, CEO of Crowdstrike, apologizes for any inconvenience caused and states that the problem has been resolved. He also credits a defective content update for the worldwide IT outage.

CrowdStrike CEO on Global IT outage: 'Apologies, resolution will take time'

PTC News Desk: According to George Kurtz, CEO of Crowdstrike, a single flawed content update was the reason behind the worldwide IT disruption. "We're deeply sorry," he stated, expressing regret for the technological error that caused significant disruptions at banks, financial exchanges, supermarkets, airports, and other locations throughout the world.

Crowdstrike is a cybersecurity firm that helps the largest corporations in the world prevent hackers or breaches on the internet.


He said, "That update had a software bug in it and caused an issue with the Microsoft operating system," but the problem has already been resolved by the company. "We identified this very quickly and remediated the issue."

"We need to go back and see what transpired here," he said. Our systems are always scanning the outside world for the most recent strikes from adversaries. When asked if it was a cyberattack, he responded, "No, it wasn't. This content change was relevant to it."

He added that although it had been "a long night" for him and his colleagues, their end of the system had been fixed. However, he also issued a warning, saying that it might take some time for things to return to normal.

"So, it could take some time for some systems—it [won't] just recover," the speaker stated. However, our goal is to ensure that each and every client is completely recovered."

The IT security company had previously declared that it had located the problem, isolated it, and implemented a solution.

The statement read, "CrowdStrike is currently assisting customers who have been affected by a flaw discovered in a single Windows host content update. Linux and Mac hosts are unaffected. This isn't a cyberattack or security incident. A solution has been implemented when the problem was located and isolated."
