Canadian spy agency claims India, China likely to interfere in elections; names Russia, Pakistan too
PTC News Desk: Canadian spy agency has alleged that India and China might interfere in Canada's upcoming general elections on April 28, while Russia and Pakistan also have the potential to do the same.
The Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) made these remarks at a time when Ottawa's ties with New Delhi are at an all-time low due to Canada's actions and allegations against India alleging its involvment in the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
India has previously denied the allegations of interference, while China has also issued a similar denial.
Canadian Security Intelligence Service deputy director, Vanessa Lloyd, said that hostile state actors were increasingly leveraging artificial intelligence to meddle in elections.
"The PRC (People's Republic of China) is highly likely to use AI-enabled tools to attempt to interfere with Canada's democratic process in this current election," Lyod said. "We have also seen that the government of India has the intent and capability to interfere in Canadian communities and democratic processes," he added.
"It's often very difficult to establish a direct link between foreign interference activities and election results ... Nevertheless, threat activities can erode public trust in the integrity of Canada's democratic processes and institutions," Lloyd said.
This comes soon after Canada PM called for a snap elections amid a tarrif threat from the US as Donald Trump continues to attack the country for being a 'nasty state'.
