BSF & BGB border coordination conference focuses on development and joint efforts for progress

New Delhi/Chandigarh, June 15: The 53rd Border Coordination Conference between the Border Security Force (BSF) of India and the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) was held at the BSF Chhawla Camp in New Delhi from 11 to 14 June.

Led by his excellency Maj Gen AKM Nazmul Hasan, BAM, ndc, psc, Director General of BGB, and Dr Sujoy Lal Thaosen, IPS, Director General of BSF, the conference aimed to strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation between the two border guarding forces.

During the conference, both sides engaged in detailed discussions on various agenda points and reached several significant conclusions. One of the most noteworthy outcomes was the agreement on five developmental projects along the Indo-Bangladesh border.

This decision is expected to have a profound positive impact on the lives of the people residing in the border regions, promoting progress, and fostering stronger trade and bilateral relations between the two friendly nations.

The cooperation between BSF and BGB was highly appreciated, particularly in expediting the construction of a Single Row Fence and other essential infrastructure along the border. DG BGB assured full cooperation and instructed the concerned battalions to conduct joint verifications for the proposed single row fence works. Both sides also agreed to hold a meeting of Nodal Officers within one month to address matters related to developmental and infrastructure projects.

Addressing the issue of trans-border crimes, such as drug smuggling and trafficking of contraband items, FICN, gold, and narcotics, both forces emphasized the importance of the Coordinated Border Management Plan (CBMP). They pledged to pursue real-time information sharing and interrogation reports of traffickers, while remaining extra vigilant to combat these crimes and ensure a crime-free Indo-Bangladesh border.

To tackle violent incidents along the border and reduce their frequency, both sides committed to working jointly and professionally. They agreed to enhance joint patrolling and vigilance, especially during late hours to early morning, intensify public awareness programs, share real-time information, and make concerted efforts to bring criminals to justice.

Both forces acknowledged the positive impact of Confidence Building Measures (CBMs) implemented through various agreed events, such as coordinated joint patrolling, identification of vulnerable areas, quarterly meetings at the Nodal Officers' Level, and strengthening mutual cooperation. DG BSF suggested increasing sports activities between the forces at the border and exploring the possibility of water sports activities in the riverine border, which was well received by DG BGB.

Both sides agreed to continue bilateral engagements like games and sports, joint retreat ceremonies, goodwill visits, and training exchange programs. The exchange visits by media houses were also appreciated by DG BSF, as proposed by DG BGB.

Expressing satisfaction with the conference's outcome, both DGs reaffirmed their commitment to working jointly to maintain peace and tranquility at the border. They provisionally agreed to hold the next DG level conference in Bangladesh, further strengthening the ongoing cooperation and partnership between the two border guarding forces.
