Bangladesh court rejects Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Das' bail plea in sedition case
PTC News Desk: Bangladesh's Chattogram court has rejected the bail plea of the jailed Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Das on January 2. Chinmoy was arrested by Dhaka police on November 25 in connection with a sedition case.
A team of 11 Supreme Court lawyers led by advocate Apurba Kumar Bhattacharjee, who is also the spokesperson of the Sammilita Sanatani Jagaran Jote, an organisation that Chinmoy is also a part of, sought bail plea of Chinmoy Krishna Das which was rejected after hearing arguments from both sides for around 30 minutes.
Rabindranath Ghosh, Chinmoy Krishna Das's former lawyer, was admitted to Kolkata's Seth Sukhlal Karnani Memorial (SSKM) Hospital after suddenly suffering from chest pain. The 75-year-old senior lawyer claimed that he was harassed and assaulted outside the court while attempting to submit the bail petition.
During the hearing, the courtroom was overcrowded with hundreds of lawyers, leading to a chaotic situation.
