Two massive earthquakes strike Japan within a minute, tsunami alert issued for multiple areas
PTC News Desk: Japan was rocked on Thursday by two strong earthquakes with magnitudes of 6.9 and 7.1 that shook the islands of Kyushu and Shikoku in the southwest. Public broadcaster NHK stated that authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have issued a tsunami warning for multiple places.
For the prefectures of Miyazaki, Kochi, Oita, Kagoshima, and Ehime, a tsunami advisory has been issued. Twenty centimeter waves had already been seen in the Miyazaki prefecture on Kyushu, according to news agency Reuters, which cited NHK.

According to news agency AFP, which cited NHK, tsunamis up to one meter in height were predicted to reach or have already arrived in certain coastal parts of the Kyushu and Shikoku islands.
"Tsunamis will strike repeatedly," the Japan Meteorological Agency said, taking to X. Please refrain from going to the coast or into the sea.
The Kyushu Electric Power Company also verified that all of its nuclear power facilities were operating as intended.

According to NHK, Shikoku Electric Power Company also declared that there are no issues at the nuclear power facility in Ikata, Ehime Prefecture. It stated that the values at the monitoring sites that track radiation levels in the neighborhood had not changed.
The powerful earthquake that struck the area has temporarily delayed departures and arrivals from Miyazaki Airport, according to a report from NHK that referenced Japan's transport ministry. Airport officials are looking for anomalies in the interim.
