With the Punjab Assembly elections 2022 nearing, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), led by Sukhbir Singh Badal, on Monday became the first political party to launch a virtual poll campaign from Kharar with party candidate Ranjit Singh Gill. The virtual route has been taken amid Covid-19 surge. The Election Commission of India has banned physical political rallies and roadshows owing to the spike in Covid cases. Political parties in Punjab are left with no other option than to go virtual to motivate voters through non-traditional ways such as online campaigns, with the SAD taking the lead.
