Viral Video: Karnataka students seen performing 'namaz' in schools amid hijab row

In the midst of the ongoing hijab controversy in Karnataka, videos of students offering Friday namaz in schools across the state went viral on social media. The first incident occurred in Bagalkote district, where around six girl students were seen performing namaz in their school in a viral video. The video was allegedly shot on February 4, however, came to light when it went viral and the locals came out with objections. In the video surfacing on the internet, students of the school were seen kneeling down and touching their heads to the ground while reading namaz. Following this, a few parents complained at alleged that the school authorities permitted the practices. The school principal, on the other hand, stated she was unaware of this but has already asked students not to engage in such activities at school. Watch: Students offer 'namaz' in Karnataka schools In the second incident, children from a government primary school in Dakshina Kannada allegedly offered namaz on the school campus. Teachers claimed that they had asked students not to participate in religious activities in class. Watch: Students offer 'namaz' in Karnataka schools The hijab row in the state started in January this year when some students of Government Girls PU college in the Udupi district alleged that they were stopped from attending classes. During the protests, some students claimed that they were denied entry into the college campus for sporting hijab. Following this incident, students of several colleges arrived at Shanteshwar Education Trust in Vijayapura wearing saffron stoles, while a similar situation was seen in several colleges in the Udupi district. Watch: Students offer 'namaz' in Karnataka schools As the controversy escalated, the pre-University education board had released a circular stating that students can wear only the uniform approved by the school administration and no other religious practices will be allowed in educational institutions.
