Vaccinate all animals against lumpy skin disease; bury carcass in scientific manner: HC to Punjab
Chandigarh, August 18: The Punjab and Haryana High Court, while taking up a public interest litigation filed on the issue of lumpy skin disease in animals in Punjab, on Thursday directed the state government to vaccinate all animals as soon as possible, and bury the carcass of the affected cattle in a scientific manner. In reply, the Punjab Government informed the HC that the vaccine against lumpy skin disease in cattle had been ordered from Telangana. Following this, the HC disposed of the PIL. Amid rising cases of lumpy skin disease, the Punjab Government recently urged the Central Government to immediately arrange goat pox vaccine for over 25 lakh livestock to prevent the spread of the disease. Punjab Animal Husbandry, Fisheries and Dairy Development Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar took up the issue with Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Parshottam Rupala via video conference. As per the Punjab Cabinet minister, 2.05 lakh doses of goat pox vaccine had already been administered to healthy cattle. Besides, affected animals are being monitored. The most affected areas are Fazilka, Muktsar, Faridkot, Ferozepur, Bathinda, Tarn Taran, Jalandhar and Amritsar districts.
