Union Health Minister calls for intensifying Covid 19 testing in states, UTs

New Delhi, January 25: Union Health Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya on Tuesday directed states/UTs to send Covid testing and vaccination data timely. He also called for intensifying testing in states where it has gone down to check further spread of coronavirus. Union Health Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya also told the states/UTs that as a large number of people were opting for home isolation, they should be monitored as per national guidelines. Also read | Patiala temple 'sacrilege' accused 'wanted to hug idol', says preliminary investigation Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya interacted with the Health Ministers of nine states and Union Territories (UTs) earlier in the day to take stock of the Covid-19 situation. The interaction took place virtually.

The states and UTs that participated in the virtual interaction were Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Ladakh, Uttar Pradesh and Chandigarh. In an earlier interaction with states and UTs, Mandaviya had advised them to keep a tab on infrastructural matters regarding medical oxygen. He had asked them to establish teleconsultation hubs in every district and focus on widespread awareness regarding available infrastructure and healthcare services. Meanwhile, India on Tuesday reported 2,55,874 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, 50,190 less than Monday, taking the daily positivity rate down to 15.52 per cent, the Union Health Ministry added. As many as 2,67,753 recoveries have also been reported in the last 24 hours. With the Covid recovery rate at 93.15 per cent, the cumulative recoveries from the virus across the country stand at 3,70,71,898. The ministry also reported 614 Covid deaths in the last 24 hours.
Notably, 16,49,108 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours; 1,74,355 more than on Monday. In the ongoing vaccination drive, 162.92 crore vaccine doses have been administered so far. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday said the Covid-19 positivity rate in the national capital has reduced by 20 per cent in the last 10 days and added that the restrictions will soon be lifted. -PTC News
