New Delhi [India], August 26: The University Grants Commission issued a list of 21 “self-styled” and unrecognized institutions which are under UGC Act.
Commission declared these universities as fake which are not empowered to confer any degree.
Universities registered fake and unrecognized are from different places such as Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal, etc.

Universities from Delhi are:
- All India Institute of Public & Physical Health Sciences
- Commercial University Ltd
- United Nations University
- Vocational University
- ADR-Centric Juridical University
- Indian Institution of Science and Engineering
- Viswakarma Open University for Self-employment
- Adhyatmik Vishwavidyalaya
Universities from Uttar Pradesh are:
- Gandhi Hindi Vidyapith, Prayag
- National University of Electro Complex Homeopathy, Kanpur
- Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose University
- Bhartiya Shiksha Parishad, Bharat Bhawan
Universities from West Bengal are:
- Indian Institute of Alternative Medicine
- Institute of Alternative Medicine and Research
Universities from Odisha are:
- Nababharat Shiksha Parishad
- North Orissa University of Agriculture and Technol
Meanwhile, one university each from Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Puducherry and Andhra Pradesh feature in the list.

The University Grants Commission Act, 1956; under Section 22 stipulated that the right of conferring or granting degrees shall be exercised only by a University established or incorporated by or under a Central Act, a Provincial Act or a State Act or an institution deemed to be a University under Section 3 or an institution specially empowered by an Act of Parliament to confer or grant degrees.
