PTC News Desk: A swarm of gigantic dragonflies engulfed a Rhode Island beach over the weekend, causing people to flee. The scary moment was captured in a video that is already going viral on social media.
The video shows an endless swarm of large insects descending on Misquamicut Beach in Westerly. The incident allegedly occurred on Saturday, July 27.

Beachgoers were seen ducking for cover while others tried swatting them away as the swarm took over the beach.

A cloud of dragonflies zipped across the beach, as stunned witnesses saw the insects fly past their faces, under umbrellas, and all around them. "I was having a good time at Misquamicut State Beach until we experienced a dragonfly apocalypse," a witness said.
Some beachgoers rushed to their cars, while others hunched for shelter. Some stood and laughed at the scene, while others screamed. Richard Sontag, another witness, described the sight as an "invasion."
Many X users were shocked and amazed by the scene, and many reacted to the video.
“Something out of a horror movie. I love it,” one user wrote, while another said “We have a lot of them here at the lake but nothing like that. They eat bugs so always have considered them my friends. Lol.”
