Panic on Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Highway: Over 50 vehicles punctured, commuters remain stranded overnight
PTC Web Desk: Chaos erupted on the Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Highway late on December 29 when more than 50 vehicles suffered punctures after driving over an iron board that had fallen on the road.
The incident occurred around 10 pm between the Malegaon and Vanoja toll plazas in Washim district, affecting both four-wheelers and cargo trucks. The unexpected mishap led to a massive traffic jam, leaving commuters stranded overnight without assistance. The authorities are investigating whether the iron board fell accidentally or was deliberately placed on the road.
Earlier in June, a collision between two cars near Kadwanchi village in Jalna district claimed six lives and left four others injured. The Samruddhi Mahamarg is a 701-km-long, partially operational six-lane expressway connecting Mumbai to Nagpur. Developed at a cost of Rs 55,000 crore, it is among the country's longest greenfield road projects, designed to enhance connectivity across Maharashtra.
