Man declared dead stuns family by coming back to life moments before mortuary transfer
PTC Web Desk: In an extraordinary turn of events, a 67-year-old man presumed dead shocked his family and hospital staff by regaining signs of life just moments before being shifted to a mortuary in this north Kerala district. The man, Pavithran, a resident of Pachapoika in Koothuparamba, had been battling multiple health issues, including cardiac and lung complications. He had recently been receiving treatment at a private hospital in Mangaluru, Karnataka, where he was placed on ventilator support.
Due to the high cost of treatment in Mangaluru, Pavithran's family decided to bring him back to his hometown, despite doctors warning that he would not survive the five-hour ambulance journey without ventilator support. Relatives recounted that Pavithran showed no movement or signs of life during the trip, leading them to believe he had passed away en route.
Upon reaching Kannur late at night, the family took what they thought was his body to the AKG Memorial Co-operative Hospital to store it in the mortuary while funeral preparations were made for the following day. A freezer had already been arranged at the hospital to temporarily preserve the "body."
As the body was being prepared for storage, a hospital attendant, Jayan, noticed a faint movement in Pavithran’s fingers. "I saw his fingers move just as we were about to shift him into the mortuary. Our electrician, Anoop, saw it too, and we immediately alerted the family and doctors," Jayan told reporters.
Doctors quickly checked Pavithran’s vitals and discovered that his blood pressure was normal. He was immediately rushed to the intensive care unit (ICU) for further treatment.
According to hospital officials, Pavithran remains in critical condition but is showing promising signs of improvement. He responds when his name is called and opens his eyes to look at people, though he is not out of danger.
