Your favourite Indian dish ranks 31st among World’s 50 Best Seafood Dishes
India boasts a diverse coastline spanning over 7,500 kilometers, nurturing a rich tapestry of seafood culinary traditions. From the spicy tang of Kerala's fish curries to the delicate flavours of Bengal's prawn dishes, each region offers distinct tastes rooted in local ingredients and cultural influences.
Coastal communities have perfected techniques that celebrate the bounty of the sea, blending spices like turmeric, mustard seeds, and coconut into dishes that reflect India's vibrant culinary heritage. Whether grilled, fried, or simmered in flavorful gravies, Indian seafood dishes are a testament to the country's deep connection with its coastal resources and gastronomic innovation.
A recent recognition on the global stage came for an Indian curry which secured the 31st spot in Taste Atlas's July 2024 ranking of the 50 Best Seafood Dishes in the World.
The renowned Bengali dish, Chingri Malai Curry, earned a spot on Taste Atlas' list of the 50 Best Seafood Dishes in the World.
Chingri Malai Curry is made with a base of coconut milk and prawns that are seasoned with garam masala spices and fried in ghee or mustard oil with onions, hot chili peppers, garlic-ginger paste, and turmeric.
If desired, red chili powder, cinnamon, sugar, and cardamom can be added to the curry in order to further enrich the flavors. The dish is cooked until the gravy becomes thick and creamy, and it is then served hot, usually with rice on the side.
Topping Taste Atlas' list is Camarones Enchipotlados, a shrimp dish from Mexico. Kaisendon from Japan and Pempek from Indonesia secured the 2nd and 3rd spots, respectively
