DRDO wing commander assaulted in Bengaluru road rage incident; FIR filed, accused arrested

PTC Web Desk: A distressing incident involving a senior defence officer has sparked outrage after Wing Commander Aditya Bose, attached to the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), posted a video on Instagram detailing an alleged violent road rage attack in Bengaluru. The incident, which occurred on April 18 reportedly involved both physical assault and verbal abuse against him and his wife, Squadron Leader Madhumita.

According to Wing Commander Bose, the incident took place early in the morning while the couple was en route from the DRDO colony in CV Raman Nagar to the airport. His wife was driving him to a bus stop near Gopalan Mall so he could board the airport shuttle to catch a flight to Kolkata, where his father was scheduled for surgery.

As per the couple’s account, a biker riding a two-wheeler with registration number KA53 EA 528 was driving recklessly and blocked their vehicle. The biker then reportedly dismounted, banged on their car door with his leg and a stone, and began hurling abuses in Kannada.

The situation escalated when the biker allegedly noticed the DRDO sticker on their vehicle and exclaimed, “You’re from DRDO, I can see the sticker. This is Kannada land, just watch what I do.”

When Wing Commander Bose exited the vehicle to confront the man, the biker allegedly attacked him with a key, striking him on the forehead, which caused profuse bleeding. In a shocking turn, other locals reportedly joined in the assault, with one individual picking up a stone and hitting the officer on the head. The officer also claimed the assailant bit his finger during the scuffle.

Despite the chaos, no police complaint was filed by Bose initially as he had to leave for Kolkata. However, his wife later filed an FIR at the Baiyappanahalli Police Station, which led to the arrest of the accused. In her statement, she mentioned the verbal abuse she faced and how the situation turned hostile after the DRDO affiliation was noticed.

She said, "We got down and tried to stop him, but he didn’t stop and was hitting my husband badly. He then picked up a stone and hit my husband on the head."

Shortly after the incident, Wing Commander Bose recorded a video, still visibly injured, with blood on his face and neck. In the emotional video, he expressed disbelief at being attacked despite his service to the nation, questioning how members of the armed forces could be treated in such a way.

"The moment I got out of the car, the biker hit me with a key on my forehead, and there was blood everywhere... They also abused my wife. This happened just because of a DRDO sticker on my car," he said.

He went on to say that his wife’s presence was the only reason he managed to escape and reach the police station. However, he also expressed disappointment at the lack of immediate police response, saying he was shocked by the "ground reality in Karnataka."

He ended the video with an emotional plea, asking for strength from God not to retaliate, while also warning that if authorities failed to act, he might be left with no choice but to protect himself.

"God help us. God give me the power not to retaliate. Tomorrow, if law and order don't help us, I will retaliate," the officer stated.

In a second video posted a few hours later, Wing Commander Bose, now seen with bandages, provided a more detailed timeline of the events. He said the attack happened around 6. 30 am, as his wife was dropping him off for his airport bus.

He claimed the biker approached their car from the right side, noticed his wife in the driver’s seat, and aggressively banged on the window, eventually breaking it with a stone and using the same to hit him. Bose admitted he acted in self-defence, hitting the attacker back and pushing him aside to protect himself and his wife.

During the chaos, Bose also lost his phone and keys.

Official Response

The Bengaluru police have taken cognizance of the incident and are verifying the details. They are also attempting to re-establish contact with Wing Commander Bose for further investigation.

A defence source confirmed the matter, stating, “An unfortunate incident of suspected road rage has come to light. The situation is being addressed. The officer was treated in a hospital for his injuries. The IAF is extending full support to the officer and civil authorities for lawful resolution of the matter.”
